Day 10: Bagelstein, Bookstores, and Sardines

Wednesday 28 June 2017

Malory, Eric, me and Anthony
Once again after class I was starving. I just had bread and jam for breakfast, and finally found the cafeteria and had a cup of cherries for a snack, but by the end of class my stomach was growling. It was raining pretty hard too so Malory, Eric, Anthony and I ducked into the closest restaurant from the tram which ended up being called Bagelstein. I thought it was great, I had this bagel sandwich with brie and a type of cream cheese with sun dried tomates, red peppers, salad, and a blueberry muffin, but Malory said it was just like Einstein bagels back home. I think the cheese was better though, and the ingredients better, but I hardly if ever eat out at home, and have never had a bagel sandwich from Einsteins, so either way this was new to me.
who names their store undiz?
After lunch we found a little bookstore and joked around reading books from the children's section, mainly because it’s all we can understand. Wednesday was also the first day of all the summer sales, so we kept walking around and found a bunch of retail stores in downtown Grenoble. It reminds me of Paris a lot, with a boulangerie and patisserie on every street, but it was fun to see all the retail. There wasn’t anything I really wanted to buy though. We spent a long time in a watch store where Eric bought a black watch with gold trim and Malory almost bought a watch, but she couldn’t make up her mind. We walked for a long time and I didn’t get home until right before dinner.

mmm rice and sardine salad
I was a little disappointed that when I got home. Helene was in a big rush to leave. She said she was meeting Pierre at the cinema, but she made me a rice salad with sardines for dinner. I will admit my stomach churned. I am so not used to having fish every night, and sardines apparently little fish with the head and skin still on peppered this rice salad with cucumbers and tomato. When she left I just picked around the fish and had some rice, but I couldn’t eat a lot. Thankfully I had eaten a lot at lunch and wasn’t too hungry anyway.
